It's probably a fleshy like material or it could be made from secreting with their saliva and stuff...

maybe they shed or they use their dead or other animals. using acid to mend and melt into the walls. a lot of them use it as camo when intruders come in. kinda like you are alone but aren't really since they themselves blend in so well. so i just think its dead carcass everywhere
