The pilot of the Derelict is of a race nicknamed either Space Jockeys, or Pilots.
Its been theorised that this race may in fact have been responsible for the creation of Xenomorphs as a biological weapon, before being wiped out by their own creations. Specifically, Ridley Scott envisioned the derelict as a bomber, used to drop Xenomorph eggs on their enemies.
Another source, the Alien Portfolio, details how the Space Jockeys discovered the eggs on the dying planet and, not realising the danger the eggs presented, loaded them on board before being killed.
Any relation to the Predators (a species envisioned AFTER the first Alien film) is purely speculative, and more of a fan-wank than a real possibility.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that its absolutely true, but it is a very good theory indeed. As far as to my knowledge and interpretation of the storyline, which is getting ruined btw, the predators knew of the Alien's existence and hunt for sport. They were able to somehow capture a queen and her hive (seen in AVP). Now this is all prior to the first movie "Alien" and happens in 2004. Perhaps, the direlect was indeed a transport and was transporting eggs layed from the captured queen to another clan of predators. This much could definately be true considering how the timeline goes, especially since the pilot died years before the Nostromo landed on LV426. I am convined and will accept this theory, since of course Paul W.S. Anderson ruined everything...

dude its just their theory it was the company. the aliens look so much alike is because there are the drones (alien, alien ressurection, avp) there are the warriors (aliens, avpr) or how ever you spell itand the runners or bipedal busrsters(alien 3) there are plenty of details t ogo int oabout all the branches of Xenomoroph but i dont have time to do so right now.
