Description

Rambo meets Alien in this terrific science-fiction thriller from 1987, directed by John McTiernan just a year before Die Hard made him Hollywood's most sought-after director of action-packed blockbusters. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite squad of U.S. Army commandos to a remote region of South American jungle, where they've been assigned to search for South American officials who've been kidnapped by terrorists. Instead they find a bunch of /skinned corpses hanging from the trees and realize that they're now facing a mysterious and much deadlier threat. As the squad is picked off one by one, Arnold finds himself pitted against a hideous alien creature that's heavily armed and wearing a spacesuit enabling the creature to render itself invisible. The title says it all in describing the relentless, escalating action that follows, maintained by McTiernan with an abundance of visual flair. The film's special effects are still impressive, and stunning locations in the Mexican jungles create a combined atmosphere of verdant beauty and imminent danger. The plot doesn't hold up to much scrutiny, but the movie's so exciting and tightly paced that its weaknesses seem irrelevant.

To me this is one of the greatest movies of all time. It was the beging of the most bad ass sci-fi creatures ever, Predator. I have seen this move over fifty times and it never gets boring or repetative in any way. I have heard people complain about plot holes and such but there are none. The whole concept in the movie kind of rough making almost hard for there to be plot holes. I have also heard a lot of people say that Arnolds acting was bad, WRONG he did perfect in fact his acting made the movie great along with the kick ass co stars Jessey Ventura and Carl Weathers. The movie is worth buying just to see one shot of the predator uncamoflaused. It is the most realistic alien I have seen to this day even with all the new special effects. I give this movie 10 out of 10 and say GREAT JOB to John McTiernan.

"Predator" can easily be counted among the top action movies of the eighties and can unquestionably be counted among the top Arnold Schwarzenegger movies! This movie is quite simply, a pure action packed thriller that sets a level of intensity that few movies in the genre can match. The action coupled with the superior score will definitely leave a first time viewer astonished at what they're watching. For fans of this film, it is one of those that can be watched over and over and enjoyed every time, making the nominal price for this DVD inconsequential.

One of the elements of this film that makes it such the powerhouse that it is was the performance given by the testosterone laden cast. Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance is brilliant in the leading role. For him, it was the perfect role; little dialogue, lots of action, what else did he need. The supporting cast is almost legendary for the industry; from the "other" governor, Jesse Ventura to Carl Weathers, all of the exceptional actors performed brilliantly.

Director John McTiernan did an absolutely perfect job with this movie. Considering the phenomenal movies he's made in his career, it's easy to see why he was picked to direct them as his approach to making a movie is clearly quite appealing to moviegoers! The job that Alan Silvestri did with the music for this movie should've won him an Oscar if it didn't. I'd almost venture to say that despite the script and the stars, this movie might not have been as big as it was had the music for every second of the movie not been the perfect match that it was.

The Premise:

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Dutch who appears to be a Major in the US Army and the commanding officer of an HRT (Hostage Rescue Team) that is called in to a Central American country under false pretenses to rescue some dignitaries. Along for the ride is Carl Weathers in the role of Dillon, a former soldier that had served with Dutch but he now works for the "agency." It doesn't take long for the action to kick in as Dutch and his team soon find another team that "bought it" in a very odd way and not long thereafter, Dutch and his team soon find themselves dealing with something no one has ever had to deal with before...

I highly recommend this DVD version of "Predator" to any and all who are fans of the action genre, whether you've seen this film or not, this DVD is extremely well worth the nominal cost. {ssintrepid}

Special Features:

This DVD is all about the movie and the only special feature available is the Original Theatrical Trailer.

Probably one of the most interesting movies Arnold ever made

BloodVice

This movie, in itself, is probably one of the most
interesting movies Arnold ever made. The fact that
it took place in a jungle, and that Arnie actually beat the predator (for the most part), makes everyone feel a little more secure about human superiority.

IT ROCKS

By far, one of the best movies made

Where to start, amidst all the '80s action movies, this one seemed like just another. The ship in the opening credits starts to fade out of memory as Arnold is brought in and given his mission to rescue a cabinet and his aide. Seems like just another movie of big guys with bigger guns. A few glimpses of the Pred's thermal vision early on is cool, but doesn't really let on to the upcoming events. Arnold and his crew are simply on a rescue mission and go in to do just that. The way you're given little clues to what's going on keeps you going, but the way the movie shifts from a cliche '80s action movie into a sci-fi ass kicker is so fluid you don't even realize it happened. The special effects go beyond awesome (better than watching Arnold blow up the same house a few times in Commando or some of the aweful dubbing in Raw Deal). Even for an '80s movie, there were no "filming" flaws, I will say the view of the mushroom cloud from the chopper at the end was a little sketchy, but not bad by any standards (ok, a few script/dialogue flubs, but nothing we can't overlook). By far, one of the best movies made. Not just for genre, but as far as era it was made, cast cohesion, plot & subplot, location, fluidity, it was a damn good movie.

Pure action

Steven Mitchell

This 1987 movie directed by 'John McTiernan'(Die Hard, Last Action Hero)is
pure action. Arnold Schwarzenegger has never been in better form!! Well he has but this movie shows his talent very well! An elite Commando team gets dropped off in the jungles of central america and they are hunted one by one by an alien. Quite cleverly made, good action scenes, excellent special effects!!!
Definately my best 'Schwarzenegger' Movie.
10/10.
