Traveling to China is absolutely way over the top for a first date. Go to a local Chinese restaurant instead, it's much better.

Chinese is to common try a Japanese restaurant.

It depends on:

- How good the food is;
- How tolerant your date is of spicy foods;
- How tolerant your date is of Chinese food in general;
- How nice the neighborhood is.

And none of this matters as long as you are not insecure and can make your date like you under any circumstances. All you need is charisma. Have you ever rallied a bunch of unknown people in an MMO to follow you to their deaths on a mildly interesting quest for some above average looking pants? No? Then you'd better stop imagining that you have and be as confident as that during the date.

And just in case your date doesn't like or can't eat the food you're going to offer, just have a backup plan. I'm sure you can think of other places that aren't Chinese. The thing is, however, no plan is bad as long as you're having fun and appear as an actual person, not a fedora. If you have to laugh at your own jokes so they get that you're joking, find a different date.

Japanese is too common, just travel to Japan...
