My personal experience with Prometheus.

I have avoided all things involving prometheus since i had heard it was being release. I have avoided the main board, Countless youtube videos and walked away from people talked about it. I saw one trailer and one trailer only.

So i came home from my final exam ready to rest and suddenly i was pulled to the cinema. The first thing that stuck me was the exceptional use of 3D, It was not used as a gimmick but more to immerse the viewer which tickled me deeply, I was grinning throughout the whole film. I had two friends with me, One who had seen Alien and one that had not. I would constantly turn excitedly to my friend and we would both share in the glee of seeing things we recognise in the film. The use of special effects and 3D created a whole new layer of immersion which created depth in the world and left me in constant awe. But the story left me with many questions which me and my friends talked about for the hour it took getting home.

1. Why did David spike the drink?
2. Why was the jockey trying to kill humans?
3. Why did the jockey kill himself at the start?

The engineer at the beginning of the film was performing a ritual - the black ooze broke down his body, allowing his DNA to seed an unpopulated Earth, effectively, creating 'us'.

David SPiked Holloway's drink because he was 'told' to by Weyland. Similar to company directives thoughout the alien series, Weyland wanted to capture an alien species.

The Engineers wanting to kills us? Speculative. It's basically left open to the viewer to make his own mind up.

I still think it's only because they just made something better, but I'm open to speculation. Maybe they just like killing things that look like them.

^ That's a good point. My favorite shot in the whole movie is the Prometheus docked at night with the lights on while the wind blows outside. Christ, that was beautiful. I can't imagine it'll have quite the same effect on the small screen.

^That's why I rarely ever play movies outside my blu-ray on a massive T.V. through surround sound set-up. I mean, I used to not care at all - I'd be able to sit through movies uploaded in 10-13 parts on Youtube and somehow get satisfaction from that. But making the switch in equipment quality really makes the difference. And with the lights off (like they should be), it's like I'm sitting in a cinema again.

Some films that look absolutely beautiful on Blu-ray are ones like Prometheus that are basically just scenery porn - a real visual treat - such as Sunshine or Avatar. To all you small-screen viewers, trust me, there's a giant fuckin' difference. I know, I was one of you (I can't stress that enough). Of course, I'm not telling you to go out and waste your money for some new toys if you really don't watch movies all that often.

Edit: To get back on topic, I was wondering myself about the whole drink situation. I'm beginning to think it created life because Shaw's boyfriend swallowed the black liquid in this instance, just as the Engineer did earlier in the film.

Why the liquid turned Shaw's egg into a little squid baby thing is beyond me. It seems the liquid has an affinity for making things that stick itself in other things.
