What are those tube-like things on the back of a xeno?

i found out that the top tube was sorta like a sensor for back attacks, and the other 4 were like glands for the stuff the alien hive is made of. i'm not sure if this is true though, any of you guys got any ideas?

dorsal spines donut. they take in any gaseous or liquid element within their current environment and filter it through these tubes to produce a unique element of its own into its bloodstream to fuel the alien. some beleive they are used for oxygen intake but it is widley accepted that aliens do not need oxygen to survive.

those parasitic tubes on the backs of xenos are used in taking in air into their bloodstream.
