The predators were named in the original scripts, if I recall. The names were then carried over to the merchandise, and to the fansites and whatnot.

Let's see...uh...

Celtic = Pred with the unique helmet that dies in AvP

Chopper = Pred in avp with arm blades

Scar = Pred in avp that fought the queen + died at the end

I can't recall the names of the yautja from Predator and Predator 2, but I'm sure someone else knows them.

the first 2 preds from the pred movies were unnamed, but the preds from AVP each had a nickname. The way I learned them was originally from the Mcfarlane figures, lol, as the name was printed on the box of each one.
